I think I have got everyone up to Volume 10 and still waiting for the next volumes and enjoying it as much as BOTP which I bought at the first moment of see them.

True, very true and at least Ken's father died only once and not 3 or 4 times when Ken was a amall child and at least in Gatchamn, died once unlike BOTP where Red Impulse actually lived again after dying to save the planet.

Yes it was and there's one bit on http://www.vacuform.com/Gatchaman/GatchMain.htm website I read which is painfully funny. I have posted it in one of the other threads but will do it here just for you Gatchgirl.

BOTP was geared towards a young crowd; 7-Zark-7 was, in retrospect, the parental voice. He was also the worrier, the egomaniac, and the biggest control freak I've ever seen in my life. He reassured his watchers that all was well and good among the team members. And that nobody died in that surprise attack by Spectra on that city of 5 billion. (Right. Have you ever seen an evacuation of a city of 500? I rest my case.) And that those UN fighters they sent in to ward off Spectra were really just robots. (Fascinating that when the UN succeeded, humans were flying; when the UN crashed and burned, robots were flying. Seems to me that they should've just sent humans all the time.) Unfortunately, this is exasperating for the adult watcher. At the end of most episodes (for the 10th time), he reassured us that nobody died, or that all suffering was minimized. Even when Jason starts suffering from the brain damage that will kill him (these episodes were never translated), Zark reassures us that the numbness, dizziness, double vision, splitting headaches, and nightmares were all inconsequential. Of course Jason would be fine. Especially if he'd have a little better attitude about life.

This being the pervasive pattern of the show, it's a good thing the last few episodes were never translated. If they had been, Zark would have had a really tough time explaining that everything was going to be okay:

First of all, how would he have explained that Zoltar wasn't really a brother and a sister, Zoltar and Mala, but one person, Zoltar the Hermaphrodite? It's sort of the Michael Jackson/Janet Jackson question all over again:

Zark: "Okay, kids, it turns out that Zoltar has a really serious problem none of us knew about. But that's okay. Everything will be okay."

And when Jason discovered that he couldn't even stand up straight?
Zark: "Really, kids, it was just a really bad migraine. Everything will be okay."


And then Zoltar beats the living hell out of Jason, shoots him in the head thirty or forty times for good measure:
Zark: "Kids, there wasn't any blood. That means they missed. Really. All forty times." Zoltar is having so much fun beating Jason that he figures he'll drug him up, keep him alive a bit longer, and do it some more:
Zark: "Kids, sadism such as this is the result of a bad childhood. We need to feel sorry for him. And don't worry, everything will be okay."

And then Jason dies.
Zark: "Hey kids, don't worry, everything will be...oh, s**t."

And then Katse commits suicide, screaming "Die, die, everyone die!"
Zark jumps in after him.
And you thought nobody ever died in this show...

The only problems I had with BOTP are :-

Even although ciities are destroyed, everybody escapes.

When the UN loses, it loses robot planes, subs, etc but when the UN wins, it's human pilots, sailors, etc

The technobabble is just plain stupid and doesn't sound anything like that opeople would actually say unlike Star Trek (I was watching Star Trek in repeats at the time).

When they cut to 7 Zark 7, that just annoys me, even then, and how come in the Recreation Room, Mark and Jason are still playing the exact same table tennis match, Princess and Keyop are still playing the exact tune. With Tiny, that wasn't much surprise though.

And the fact that Mark's father kept dying and coming back to alive which wasn't even explained at in the series.

But despite all this, I still love BOTP and I know it's a cartoon remade for American kids and therefore tame compared with Gatchaman and today's cartoons and CGI type cartoons but still, is it me or is 7 Zark 7 even more annoying?

Yes BOTP is a remake of Gatchaman.

BAsically they got rid of all of the violence and swearing as it was a kids show and what I can understand it, in the 70s that was extremely bad in a kids cartoon, which is why nobody got killed and Mark's father died about 4/5 times and keeps coming back to alive and Keyop made those silly noises, to disguise the fact that the orignal was swearing at times.

Anyway, instead they made the typical (at the time) shite American cartoon stuff with the Recreation Room and 7 Zark 7, I think because this was the late 70s, they made the stuff because of Star Wars.

G-Force Guardians of Space was made from Gactchaman II and Gatchaman Fighter.

Another reason the overall plot of BOTP doesn't make sense is that the episodes weren't "converted" in in oder. Tatsunoko sent them over a couple at a time.

Sandy Frank's team sent them out to the stations in a "Production" order (often called the Hofius Order, as Jason Hofius made it famous). The "extra" sequences, especially Zark and Rover, make more sense in this sequence, but the stations tended to stir them up yet again.

Rhino, and I think all the other current releases, are putting them on the disks in Gatch order.

I'm not sure on any order that they go in. I did get a 100+ page book on BOTP that had the order in which it was shown in it along with the # for the corresponding Gatch episode. The Americans did show it in a weird sequence.
