I loved the cartoon film adaptation, it was violent but even as a kid I loved it, much like my love of Laputa and Starfleet Xbomber.

I recently got a DVD of terrarhawks another fav of my youth and I tell you what, I never realised how much of a sexist, racist, miserable sod the lead hero is. No wonder they never play it now Big Grin

Laputa. I lOVE that movie. Of course, anything Miyazaki is pretty guaranteed on that.

I never saw the film adaptation of Watership Down. Should check it out sometime.

I have never watched the film like I watch Ghost In The Shell and think what the film is about and such issues. I only watch Watership Down as a purely entertaining and emotional story.

When I was a kid, me and my older brother were given a rabbit which was called Thumper and bleieve you me, this rabbit could take on the entire load of cats living in our Close easily and single handed but was scared of a little male rabbit.

Daft thing she was and she even let the bmice, who were living in the compost next door to her hutch in her hutch and keep them nice and warm (how this happened, no idea) and evenmy brother found a dead bird in her hutch as Thumper tried to keep that poor bird warm under her ruff (furry bitwhich looks like a big chin)

Also, she tried constantly (and couple of times successfully) escaped. She died about 1986 and my mum told me after coming back from school. She cried but I didn't but missed seeing her in her little compound in the back garden. Crying4

The above videos above all seem interesting. Is Watership Down kinda like Animal Farm???? Where it's an adult story line (not in a sex way) but done with cartoon animals "for kids" ???? I know that I like Animal Farm and even own a copy of it.

Hmmmm.... I'd never thought of comparing the two before, but that's only because Animal Farm is rather depressing and Watership Down isn't.

Watership Down is far more about ecology and society than political satire, and isn't particularly an adult storyline. I wouldn't put it in front of my daughter at the age she is, as the fight scenes are quite bloody and I know she'd get upset. There are some other complex areas to the plot that would go right over her head. I think even without the gore she wouldn't particularly enjoy it, as many of the bunnies are not cutesy. But in a few years time....

I like both Animal Farm films. The First one was a cartoon but was about communism and fascism. The second one was done with both live animals and puppets and special effects and wasn't made like the first one but did the same communism and fascism storylines.

Comparing Watership Down with the 2 Animal Farm films though, I would say that I would prefer Watership Down myself.

Now imagine Gatchaman team dressed as rabbits and not birds.

Heh, Condor would be Bigwig, Eagle would be Hazel, Swallow would be Fiver. No Swan role, unfortunately, due to them having no female rabbits with them. And I'm lost for an Owl equivalent unless you count the seagull.

Swan would be Blackberry as in the TV series, Balckberry had a sex change from a male rabbit to a female rabbit.

MMMmmmmmm, Owl, yes that's a difficult one. I dojn't think he would be the french seagull who swears a lot though. I need to watch the film again and if I see one, then I will tell yer.

At least Katse would be the General Woundwort voiced by Joss Ackland and Galactor would be the Efrafa.

Watership Down was a favorite of mine as a youngster...I have the book around somewhere....that, Charlotte's Web, and Rikki Tikki Tavi were also favs.
