Some people use the person they were dating as a way of keeping memories organized. Like, "I was dating Joe at the time (I wish!), so it had to be 1995."

In my case, it would be, "I was with OneBit at the time, so it was between 1988 and now." Two more years, and I'll have been with the guy half my life.
