Not if they had to do like they've done in the penultimate episode of Gatch F, or were in a similar mood! They literally intended to fight until their death between them in order to decide who would have sacrificed himself and destroy the satellite of antimatter using the Hypershoot! But, here, we're talking about another matter ... there's Jun involved, which means that the two heroes could have thought it differently!!

You make a good point, Marie, and I thought about that, But Gatch II and F are different. In those series, Joe already feels like he's living on borrowed time, and like it's his destiny to die defeating X/Z. In Gatch I he didn't have a death wish, and he wasn't as inclined to punch Ken out and then go his own way, despite having orders to the contrary. In Gatch I, Joe was more willing to obey Ken's orders, even if he disagreed, and didn't have as suicidal a nature.

You're so right, TJ! It's quite interesting how the characters develop throughout the three series and how the behaviour of both of these two main characters, that is Ken and Joe, switches as the story goes. I find that their change in character did make sense, reflecting what they have been through throughout their whole ordeal. Not that the others' character did not change at all ... the everlasting war took the toll on each and everyone of the team, but the changes in the Eagle and the Condor were the most detectible.

[i]I have, somewhere, a doctor's diagnosis of Edgar Allan Poe's last days. After looking at the symptoms, he concluded rabies. Not as 'romantic' as alcoholism, but also rescues Poe from the 'degenerate drunk' stereotype that has dogged him since Griswold turned on him.

Reader's Digest ran that article. One thing that added credibility to the diagnosis is that it was some kind of assignment or test for last year students/interns: They were given a 'patient's' medical record, and told to find out what was wrong with them. The records were identified by initials, so the doctor in question didn't even know who 'E.P.' was until almost done -and after he'd made the diagnosis.

The essays on Gatchfanfic discussing Joe's health are "A Different Diagnosis" by Ayako and Dei, and "Psychological Writeup for Joe" by katsesame. I like how the first analyzes Joe's problems from a physical perspective and the second from a mental/emotional point of view. Katsesame also discusses the politics of substituting 'experimental treatment' for 'moronic' when referring to the centrifuge. Lol

In Cathrl's Battle AU at Gatchfanfic, she explains Jason's problem's as migraines. And the implants can't be used for the jump drives (time warp) if there's uncompatible drugs in the system. Fun, but interesting. Rolleyes She is a good writer. Clap

I read them both. They make more sense than the idea that shrapnel from the 'puppy episode' was responsible.

Of course, given our Condor's tendency to leap into the fray, he could have been injured closer to the end.

Hi all!

The shrapnel from episode #20 is the popular choice for people to point to, for obvious reasons. The only problem with this is the not-so-minor detail that, by the end of that episode, that piece of shrapnel is no longer in Joe's head. Yes, I know that you could argue that there was more than one piece involved in his injury then, but all the evidence from that episode points to a single piece

But not too close to the end, since the Doctor comments that it's from an old injury.

I think it's clear that Joe has received many potential head wounds. You can argue the puppy scenario, or the exploding Devilstar rose bomb when he was a child, or even a combo of both... or even some other injury not from an episode. That's the fun of fanfic. But IMHO, it's fun to write with the canon information (if there) and then use your imagination to explain the behind the scenes stuff.
