I had a really bad dream about the Gatch movie last night...they went ahead and made the movie, but it was HORRIBLE! They changed many of the characters appearances, added several new team members, and no one could follow the plot of the movie. The theater was full when the movie started, but people left halfway through the movie!
Anyway, I was on You Tube looking around and found a better version of the trailer...and found some clearer shots to capture, including a pretty good shot of their birdstyles. I hope this isn't the last we see of anything to do with the Gatch movie!

Seeing Jun beside Ryu like that makes her look awfully thin. And Jinpei's face in Birdstyle looks like a toy dolls .... or is very reminiscent of Astroboys.

I noticed that too, and I still think Ryu's head is too small for his body. I was hoping they'sd look more like the chacrters in the two Final Fantasy CG movies.

With the bad news lately about Imagi, I've been trying to find whatever vestige of good in it that I can, and one thing I've thought is that there being no Gatchaman movie at all would be better than there being a horrible movie like what you dreamed about!
I do like getting a better look at the earlier designs here though -thanks for posting these better images! The proportions of the characters' bodies (esp. Ryu's) and some of their faces bug me here, but I think the more armor-like look of their birdstyles is interesting.

Same here!
Thanks for sharing, Springie! And hope that your bad dream turns out to be the opposite!

I'm just trying to keep up hope that the movie will be made at all. I think when they finally get down to it, the movie/story wil go through lots of revisions and may bear very little resemblance to what is in this trailer.
Still, it's exciting just to see a Gatchaman trailer!

I would actually say it is the opposite way. Ryu's body is too big, AFAIC. Yes he was bulky but not like that. Reduce the body size and his head would look better.

It's been the trend for the past couple of years to change characters to a more "darker skinned" character (Sorry, normally would have said Afro-American but I've noticed there's a world-wide range of fans here and I don't know the Politically Correct term internationally.... either way I'm gonna end up ticking someone off).
Justice League - Green Latern
Marvel comics/movies Avengers - Nick Fury of Shield
and now Nambu
I have never heard if these type of changes actually help broaden the demographics of the fan base but it does seem like these types of changes are the trend that is here to stay.
I can see that happening in American movies. When you get down to it, Green Lantern can be African American (and there was one in the comics in the 1970s, I think), and so can Nick Fury (even though he started white). The only large imported non-Japanese population in Japan are the descendants of Koreans. A black person (sorry!) named Kozaburo Nambu in Japan would have to be adopted or be bi-racial -- and the Japanese have some unfortunate racial beliefs to shed before that can happen on any scale.
