You are lucky that you had that opportunity, Marie! Fortunately, this is one of the 'worst' episodes for that. Some of them (like this one) are really chopped up, while others are (mostly) intact. So yes, we all saw a warped view when we watched this as children, but clearly it didn't stop us from enjoying Gatchaman when we discovered it as adults!

And here I thought I turned out the way I did because of genetics. Now I know who to blame: Not my father's side of the family with the mutant genes, but Sandy Frank & Co and over-zealous censors (was Mrs Gore into censorship in the 70's? I know she was in the 80's) they warped the best TV show and tried to use Zark to brainwash us.

When it comes to Zark and Susan, I wonder what Alan Young and Janet Waldo thought while reading those lines. They had to have spent almost as much time laughing as reading, at least.

Laugh2 Oh, LB, you're so good! When I first saw the BOTP version in this week's recap, the first thing that came to my mind was the same, that is what would the Gatch characters think if they saw their BOTP version (especially Ken - TJ described exactly what his position in the BOTP version resembled ... I couldn't stop laughing)! And you just couldn't come out with a better shot! Ken's horrified expression explains everything! You could add a shot from Gatch F of Ken with his Gatchafencer slicing the monitor! WTG!

I almost hurt myself laughing at the fic. Worse, I could HEAR Alan Young and Janet Waldo speaking those lines. (Now wondering what sort of bloopers were recorded all those years ago --- not to mention what sort of mischief the voice cast got up to when they were out of the booth.)

With that cast, I'm sure the directors and producers had their hands full. To bad they don't have bloopers for cartoons like they do for movies and tv shows.

My dad told me that when a friend showed him a 'portable' calculator in the late 1960's, the thing was the size of a briefcase and had cost almost $100. And that was less powerful than the freebie calculators offered today when you apply for a credit card. In 1972, that chip could have been everything the writers said it was. Time and technology do march on.

What drives me NUTS about this ep -and it's only mildly comforting that Gatch and BotP do this too- is that there's apparently security out the wazoo on this mission, what with the special plane and the guards and whatnot. But the stewardess seems to be considered SO umimportant that she's not provided with any kind of security or escort, walking across the airfield by herself, through some poorly lit areas. She's just left vulnerable. Error It's ridiculous. It's the same kind of thinking that has security all over who's let into here and there -but they never bother checking out or monitoring the janitor. Seriously.

This is also one of the eps that was driving me nuts with the 'male or female' Purple Villain question. Then I learned that the original PDOS was supposed to be BOTH. And THEN UW comes up with that Katze was supposed to be entirely female originally. Oh boy. Faint

You make a good point about the security for the stewardess, Candi, but I think she was just reporting to work. At what point does the security begin? Do they pick up the pilots and stewardesses from their home and escort them to the airfiled? I don't think that's usual. I'm guessing that the stewardess parked in the wrong lot and unwisely chose to cut across a dark part of the airfield. That, sadly, does happen IRL.
