Thanks Ebony! This thread has become a real boost to me, as I was being stupid by letting someone's nastiness discourage me. I'll just keep plugging away at it until I get it right.

Everyone's kind words and encouragement really helps...and it also helps to know I am not alone in being targeted like that. I just have trouble understanding that behavior...I don't think I could ever be that harsh...guess I am just too fluffy...

I went in and tried a couple things, and you don't even have to sign in to rate pics. You can just hit the stars and go on. You don't even have to hit a "submit" like Tim said if you're not logged in. And it DOES count that vote.

So it's completely possible some moron who doesn't even know what Gatchaman is happened upon the site and just started giving rankings because miserable people like to spread misery. I bet Julieann can tweak it so only people who are logged in can vote, if someone were to ask.

One of my biggest complaints about the internet. No, scratch that. My BIGGEST complaint is how you can freaking RATE and give your OPINION on every damn thing. (I mean, you can rate whether you think this thread sucks if you want. I appreciate that it's just part of how this BB works, and that it can be nice to have the option to rate a thread highly so others will give it a look, but it's a good example of what I mean.)

It's nice to be able to post art and have people comment and give you props or share something funny, but the internet is absolutely diseased by negativity and nastiness. It honestly frightens me what that says about human nature. Sometimes I feel like I'm part of a different species. Or maybe I just wish I were if that's what it means to be human.

I have also noticed that those who criticise are most often those who a) have little talent b) have often not even tried the thing they're criticising, like drawing with a pencil, and definitely c) have poor self-esteem and project their tininess on everyone they meet in an attempt to make themselves feel better.

People occasionally do this to me on DA (or do it to people I care about), and I usually can't resist writing back something with a little snap to it. You know I had to do something about that one guy's stupid criticism. He's SO not good enough to be bitching at you as much as he does. I can find just as many things wrong with his pictures, believe me. But I wouldn't criticize someone like that because a) It doesn't help them learn, it only tears them down and b) I'M not good enough to throw stones, and I'm smart enough to know that. (I think as soon as ANYONE thinks they're good enough to throw stones, they're in trouble. And there are some AWFULLY good people out there.)

So. Does your stuff deserve 0 stars? Can I swear on here? Because the answer to that is a four-letter no. (%$#& no!) Your work is beautiful, and you just keep growing, so it only gets even more beautiful as you go. Please don't let some childish person tear you down or make you afraid to do art or share your art.

We all started somewhere; it was practice and positive feedback and more practice that made us better. And you epitomize the artist who is not only good naturally, but who is striving to grow and improve, which can only make you a great artist. I'm just glad we all get to be along for the ride.

Springie, ignore this «critic». There are a lot of people in the internet (and in the real life, unfortunately) who strengthen their self-appraisal using such methods. These people criticize trying to hide their diffidence and often don`t have skills and talent to create anything themselves.

And I agree with Katsesama, may be this person didn`t even know what this site is about.

BTW, I don`t know, why system of low ratings is needed at all. I think, if you don`t like anything in internet and it annoys you, the best way is just to push «x» in the upper right corner of the window.

Thanks so much, SJ! I was a pretty sad puppy on Friday morning, but you're right, this site rocks...everyone has made me feel so much better, when I realize that this sort of thing happens alot on the web. Guess I just haven't been exposed to it much yet. I am going to use this to help me grow a thicker skin, and not be so worried about what jerks like that think.

Although if it is a serious rating, I really want to know why, so it can help me grow.
