I have to go back and watch The Big Bang Theory -- there's a word Sheldon uses which means sex in Vulcanian -- or what Vulcans do instead of sex, not sure -- I didn't really watch Star Trek, and what I know I learnt from TBBT! But I remember a scene from TBBT where Sheldon tells Amy to practice whatever Spock was practising in order to get rid of her urges
I believe you're thinking of Pon Farr-- every 7 years a Vulcan male is overwhelmed by the urge to mate, and if he doesn't act on it, he dies.

That would sure put a damper on affairs, wouldn't it?
I had a book where Spock actually had fathered a son named either Zar or Zack. It was when he was trapped on a frozen world in some planet's past. It was called Yesterday's Son. I loaned it out and never got it back.

There is room for creative license since Saavik was able to help him through it in Search for Spock. However, in the episode Amok Time, if he could have accepted someone other than T'Pring, I'm sure that Kirk and McCoy would have ordered it and that Nurse Chapel would have been leading the line of volunteer to help him.

Yes, that's it!!!
I can just see Sheldon's face as he's saying it!

Given that Kirk practically had to use the tractor beam to get that information out of Spock, I think it safe to presume that details on pon farr are not widely available off-Vulcan.
And at the time the show was made, the idea of asking for volunteers for Spock's problems would never have made it past the censors.

I can't remember if I read this or if it was mentioned somewhere in one of the later series...but I recall it being explained that this was one of the reasons Vulcans developed their logical culture -- the women were getting fed up with the wildly erratic, emotional behavior in the men and decided they weren't going to take it any more.

Could Earth women follow their example, please???

There's actually a hysterical fic on FF.net where Sheldon goes into Pon Far... and naturally Penny is the recipient of his 'urges'. Definitely smutty, but a worthwhile read. I'll have to see if I can dig up a link...
What is this about using a remote control to turn the phoenix into the firebird? I thought the ship had to be moving to change, let alone the team on/in the ship to go Firey.
