This page had me think really hard about that ray and about the fact, that as soon as defrosted, the team could go bash some heads.
It is quite an amazing creation. I mean, the fact that the team came out the way they did means they were frozen in some way, which prevented extra- and intracellular ice from forming in their bodies and thus destroying their tissue, and ensured their organs were still supplied by oxygen. Although the ray could've possibly caused vitrification by infusing their bloodstream with some manner of cryoprotectants (which the laser, somehow, reversed). Which still doesn't explain the lack of oxygen.
In any case, Zoltar should start to mass-produce the ray and sell it to medical facilities. He would swim in money. Good way for financing all those mechas.
