Jinpei's the smallest, and there's only four of them here instead of five -maybe his wings are seriously overheating from all the energy being generated? Smirk

Do these Gold Key comics ever mention "cerebonic implants" at all or is this "ritual that instills incredible superpowers to them for a 24 period" meant instead to be how they get their powers?

Got me thinking a bit...

I've always found it interesting that in Gatchaman, there's no explanation for how the Ninjas can do what they do beyond birdstyles and a whole lot of training, whereas in BOTP the writers want a "superpowers" explanation.

Sort of the difference, I suppose, between Batman (regular guy with a lot of training & special gadgets) and Superman (innate superpowers).

I'm sure the BOTP creators knew that viewers can accept exaggeration of the laws of physics (extreme leaping, flipping and soaring -or the tornado fighter) of as a way to indicate the heros' superior skills/abilities but I still find it interesting that while Gatch is "Batman," BOTP is "Superman."

Maybe the BOTP creators thought kids would like the idea that all they needed was to have a cerebonic implant too and then too could be heroes just like G-Force, and that they were uncomfortable about showing teenagers (and one kid) in combat and wanted to make it clear that they weren't ordinary teenagers/kids at all?

You may have something there. To support your theory, Eagle Riders, which also tried to lessen the violence (to a much smaller extent), sys the following in its introduction:

So obviously the Eagle Riders aren't 'normal' either... they have special 'cellular structures' and are touted as 'superheroes' right in the introduction!

LB, I love the Batman/Superman analogy. It works really well, except Superman's powers are all natural. If he had stayed on his home world he would have completely normal. (I just completely geeked out there, didn't I?) Anyway, it got me thinking:

We know, from James, that The Six Million Dollar Man influence Gatch II, and didn't that are about the same time as BotP?

Makes me kind of wonder how much influence the bionic man and the Bionic Woman had on the BotP creators?

Yes, a German Shephard named Max (if I'm remembering correctly).

Yes, the marriage took place in the movie-sequels, but the underlying relationship was supposedly there off and on, at the convenience of the writers, et al.

That's interesting -now I'm wondering how Ace, Dirk etc. are described in G-Force Guardians of Space -normal albeit talented kids with lots of training, or kids with "superpowers"?

If I had to guess, I'd say that it's probably the fact that such young characters were on an official "Federation" combat team being sent against the enemy forces attacking planets all over the galaxy that made the BOTP creators want to go with "Superman" rather than "Batman" -probably the same reasons they made such drastic changes with between Jinpei and Keyop. With the Science Ninja Team, I get the impression they're more secretive and less well-known within the ISO than G-Force is within Galaxy Security and that no one knows much about them at all except Dr. Nambu.

In the first episode, he suddenly tells the UN of the Science Ninja Team's existence -surprising everyone. It's probably a safe bet that Dr. Nambu might have encountered some resistance had he announced to the ISO and the UN, "Hey, I want to train these two orphans I've got here, Ken and Joe, and adopt some more kids, and train them all to be an elite squad of Ninjas to send against any future global terrorist menaces that arise!" but I've always had the impression he trained and equipped them all pretty much in secrecy, probably using a lot of his own money to fund it (and whatever areas of the ISO R&D budget he had control over).

I could believe that there was some influence.
"Cerebonic" and "bionic" do sound awfully similar, and both Steve Austin and Jamie Somers had things "implanted" in their heads, to enhance their vision and hearing. And both the Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman were really popular shows with kids around the time that BOTP would have been being developed.

Becky - Yes there was a German Shepherd, Max which was short for Maxamillion. Rudy said he named him that cause he only cost a million. Smile I was an avid Bionic Woman fan and had a crush on the Six million dollar man in 5th grade. Smile **yes I'm old** Smile I loved the Bionic Dog and am eagerly awaiting the episodes of the Bionic Woman to be released that have him in it. Smile I was also a big fan of the movies they filmed later on and squealed like a 5th grader when Steve finally asked Jamie to marry him. Smile

First, I love the 'brilliant' deduction Princess is making... she just needs to turn around! And according to Jason, G-Force has laser guns! Most interesting is the way they've drawn the aliens as actually being somewhat different from humans.

I'm ROFL 2 over Princess's deduction also!! And what are those alien "leaders" wearing? It's like they're wearing some type of velvety bathrobe, the ones we see rich people wear in films! I wonder where their glasses of wine are!!

Also ... those aliens need to do some worthy posing in order to seem even a bit friendly since their appearance does not give that impression at all!!
