Tech Question on Center Neptune/Crescent Coral....
|
|
Okay:
I have a tech question that is a little abtrue, but I think it is easily answered....
In both BOTP/Gatch, I have the impression that Center Neptune/Crescent Coral is movable and the coral island on top is for camouflage. is that correct, or am I off base? And, if it is a movable submersible, what would its speed be?
Also, approximately how big is it? I get the impression from the show it is...uhhh...pretty large. But how large? Length (although you could probably more likely say height?) beam, etc?
The last question is on the size of its undewater docks? We all know there is a dock big enough to accomodate the GodPhoenix. I also recalll in the BOTP episodes "Destruction of Space Center" (which we all know was about the destruction and sinking of the base, Zark's lies otherwise) that she had a dock big enough to accomodate an ISO Sub/Submersible.
I am working on a chapter of a fic which is BOTP **and** a crossover with another anime series in sections, so, my question is...would a submersible vessel a bit bigger than an Ohio-class sub possibly fit into one of those docking bays? (vessel length 265 meters vs Ohio-class sub, 170 meters) I know BOTP can be seen to be a bit more "elastic" than Gatch, maybe, because it seems to be in a more futuristic period where Earth is part of a big interstellar Federation of some kind....(which we know did not happen in Gatch...but makes for neat fanfic story premises...)
Thanks for putting up with my questions....

Yes, you are correct: it is movable and the coral is camouflage. As for speed, I'm guessing it would be very slow given the size and shape. It couldn't get out of the way of the torpedoes, remember.

| Somewhere on this site there should be a picture or two (or more) of cross sections of the base that could be used to give you an approximation of it's enormity.

Yes, I'd say that it was large enough to hold multiple subs of varying sizes.

I'd say that if you don't go into a lot of the technicalities on the size of the craft, there is a lot of wiggle room. It is fanfiction after all. Most readers will look for the story, and ignore the tech stuff as long as it is not to far beyond believability. For example, if you were going to have the base suddenly blast into outer space, you'd better be able to come up with a convincing backstory as to why that never happened in canon; but taking on a sub that might be a bit larger than what was seen, shouldn't be a big deal. Remember that the Phoenix, itself, cannot be a small craft.
