How the hell do I set it so it asks me where I want to save each file instead of automatically saving it to my downloads folder all the time? It's driving me bananas.
Allen, go to the preferences and then find the General tab. Part way down you will find save downloaded files to:
That is where you place where you want files saved. I have it set to desktop. I didn't like that download folder either.
Ooooops, I just reallized. I hope this helps, I just realized I am using an older version of Safari on my old Laptop at school/work instead of my more current version and laptop I have at home. More recent versions may have changed. Let me know if that helped, if not I will let you know when I get home tonight.

Allen, I think Firefox is available for Macs. I'd look into that. It is really easy to use.
Just because Macs come with Safari and PCs come with Internet Explorer, doesn't mean you have to use those browsers, look around until you find one that you like.
I use both Firefox and Safari on my computer. That way I can have some sites open in one and some in another. It also allows me to access all my email accounts. Helpful when you have two accounts from the same address, eg. hotmail.

It just changes the default automatic save directory. And I don't use a Mac, I use Windows.
Just curious, Yul... why do you feel the need to use 5 browsers? I have 5 windows open at a time, but usually all in one browser. I'm wondering what I'm missing... ?

I use one just for web-search and surfing, one only for personal accounts and correspondence, two ones for work, and one more because four ones aren` t enough. It sounds crazy, I know Besides (and may be it is the main reason) I play online games using different accounts at the same time, so every account «lives» in its own browser.
As for AllentownDarkWater`s question, I use Safari (version 5.0.3) and there is the check-box "Always prompt before downloading" in Preferenses -> General:
Also, right above that check box, you have a drop down menu, and you can see that it's set to Downloads. If you change that to 'Desktop' then at least you'll be able to find your files and then you can manually place them where you want them to go.

Ouch why use safari? Use Chrome its a better version of the same browser.
I tried Chrome, but gave up on it when it didn't work for several websites that I visit (paypal being the most inconvenient). I did like the fact that was relatively small and not too fancy, but I found that with the newer versions of Firefox, I get very with the add-ons that I want and not the ones that I don't. Of course I also have IE on my computer, because my husband prefers that and it allows him to have his stuff without messing up mine when we go some where.
I'm being to think that computers are like cats and dogs: there are cat people and dog people; Mac people and PC people. After that browsers are like individual breeds -- there's something out there for everyone.
