I have always wondered where the term "Mutt & Jeff" came from. I've only heard it before in terms of cockney rhyming slang for deaf, so I'd assumed it was some old music hall act. I'd never realised this was a term from outside the uk before.
Anyway, Wikipedia has the info. It was a comic strip.
I still don't know what they were saying though.

In 1996 I lived in a flat where one of my neighbours called me cock, which is Walsall way of calliing a persone, same as calling people mate, chum, captain and governor (or guv) the last two are sometimes said to me in Homebase which pisses me off.
Anyway, my neighbour calls me cock while calls me Paul (my name) to anybody else. I don't know if poeple call people this outside the Walsall area or if this is just a local thng.
