HOLLYWOOD (KP International) Winnie the Pooh, the tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff, received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Tuesday (April 11).
The honour coincides with the huggable, lovable bear's 80th anniversary with Disney. The bear, created by British author A.A. Milne, was first introduced to the public on Christmas Eve in 1925 in the London Evening News.
Pooh made his first Disney appearance in a featurette entitled 'Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree' in 1966. Since then Pooh's career has skyrocketed along with those of his companions from the Hundred Acre Wood - Rabbit, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore.
"I know that Winnie would react to all this fanfare by simply saying, 'Oh bother,'" said Roger Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company. "But, Winnie, you really are worth a bother."
He certainly is worth a bother. Pooh's retail sales grossed US$6 billion for Disney last year alone (he should be seeking a raise in honey pots).
The nilly nilly silly ole bear is now a part of a select group of elite cartoon characters given their own star, including Mickey Mouse and Snow White.
