Sensitive Swannie

Ok, I'm not usually a ranter, but I just *have* to know what you guys think...

I just wandered over to the Fanfic Archive, bc I am always looking for new fics and fanart...(great new additions by the way, Katse! *hugs*) and I was really hurt by what I saw for my latest pics...

you can rate the pics by clicking on the stars...5 stars is best, then 4,3,2,1,and 0 means you really suck...LOL

anyway...somebody has been rating my stuff pretty low...but I was really hurt that someone gave me 0 stars for a couple of my latest pics! There are also a few 1s and 2s...and of course, they didn't leave a comment...coward!

What I need to know is...is my stuff really that bad and no one wants to hurt me? Or do you just think someone is hating on me?

And...please...I am not writing this to get compliments...I really want to know the truth so I can improve...I know I am new at this...

I know I shouldn't let me feelings get hurt over someone being hateful, but after all of that work it hurts, ya know?? I don't think *anyone* else there has gotten a "0" star vote! Mecry

Springie, your pics really are awesome. You are doing a fantastic job with both the pencil drawings and Photoshop drawings. Don't let one bad review (or reviewer) discourage you! Just look at how many movies, tv shows, Broadway plays have been received bad reviews but end up #1 in the ratings and win awards.

Just remember that you can never please everyone. Maybe this person gave you a low rating because they see room for advancement in your talent. Or maybe they're just being a complete jerk and trying to get a rise out of you. Smile

Either way, you know we absolutely love what you do and we want you to keep doing it!! So keep drawing! Huggles

I would go with the complete jerk theory. Your artwork does not deserve those kind of low scores and certainly not zeroes. Having just had a look, it's not just you either - there's a pic by Rebekoah (sp?) that's also scored 0 and likewise really does not deserve a low mark.

Although, I may question how one votes. Does just paying a visit to your pics place a vote? I have not registered but I have gone on and looked at all your piccies, again. Does that leave a mark as a 0 star?
Or does one really have to press the button to vote.

Don't worry CD, you're not leaving 0 votes by just visiting. I'm pretty sure you would have to activate the vote to make it count. Otherwise what's the point of having a review system.

This sounds like someone being an arse. Since the person is too afraid to leave any identification and/or constructive criticism, I say ignore the person. His/her kind lurk on the net (especially in the youtube comments section :p). These things happen. They've happened to me in the past and I'm sure they will happen again in the future. The trick is to learn to pay attention to the constructive criticism and ignore the hateful stuff. Besides, I think that says more about the person posting this type of stuff than us. The enmity of the internet gives false courage to some people who are otherwise cowards in real life.

I'm the opposite. I'm a right, proper bastard in real life and a nice guy on the internet. Biglaugh1

Yup. You have to select your rating and then hit the submit key. So this isn't a case of accidental "nastiness" but someone being an arse on the internet.

All I can say is keep up the good work, Springie! Don't worry about this guy. The goal is to learn from constructive criticism and that's something this person is not offering. What this person offers is worthless.

Huggles Awww, you guys are the best!! Thanks for cheering me up...I was really feeling discouraged...because, well...a zero??? I can understand 4s, 3s and 2s even, but zero? Yeah, ok, I can buy the jerk theory...I just wish they'd own up to it and tell me why they did it, ya know? Funny how you can hear many compliments, but the one (or two) "slam" is what sticks with you...

When I started writing, I was all into this continuous improvement and constructive criticism stuff. I've mellowed since then, but I also miss the joy of working at it until it's right.

What really, really got me, more than getting a critique of my work, was another critiquer disagreeing with my critique! Don't ask me why, but it did. Now, I know what to expect, and I've had my own share of disagreeing with what the first critiquer said.
