Even with the jet fighter used by Germany in WW2 Gunnie, wasn't enough for them to win the war. It may have been fast but the manoeurability could be awful for a primitive machine.

In fact, it was Germany who had the first jet fighter,the Messerschmitt Me 262 which was renamed for the Japanese and then it was us Brits with our Gloster Meteor.

Agian my point to you Gunnie is that any new technology you make, your enemies would make countermeasures or technology to deal with your stuff. Knifeyspoony

Actually Ebony, that's not too reminiscent to an event that happened a couple of years ago when at an air show in Britain we quite naughtily tested one of our new surface to air missile systems in tracking the American stealth B2 and F117A aircraft.

Askura also has a point regarding Vietnam, the American military at the time was largely much more advanced then that of the NVA.

There are many reasons why the Americans lost the war, troop morale, lack of public support, an overconfidence in their technological and political, economical superiority and the misconception of how the war would be fought.

I have forgotten which war it was, either Korean or Vietnam war, but the American planes espeically were relying more on missiles than guns and the pilots had to relearn how to fight with their guns, which is why the Top Gun school was set up in America which lead to that film with Tom Cruise in.

CEP we must have that small army complex thing...we have to out wit the enemy because we don't have the resources to scare them with lots of firepower.

Vietnam...that was complex wasn't it... so much happened, I don't know more than most people would only that it was messy from all sides....

The idea of a small army has goes back all the way to the Bible, when God helped to cut down Gideon's large army to only 300 soldiers (sounds familiar doesn't it)

Before America got involved with Vietnam and the Viet Cong, the French had similar problems with their war there and the Viet Nimh.

The French Foreign Legion are probably one of the best trained troops in the world.

and to say the French are weak isn't true as they have conquered almost all of Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and during the Napoleonic Wars.

Also Gunnie, America lost in Vietnam as well.

Oh and by the way Gunnie, during the War of 1812 between America and the UK, Ireland and the Canadian militias, America lost that war because of their use of militias and had great financial and logistical problems, didn have great Military and civilian leadership and New England refused to even fight.

And repeating what everybody you have said, it isn't about being weak, to win a war or battle, you will need the best leadership, training, equipment, financie, logistics intelligence about your enemy and knowledge of the local landscape.

I am afraid I would disagree. The Legion is the best of the best and they own special forces are more well trained.

After watching a TV programme about the Legion, I found out that a base in Djibouti on the east coast of Africa, where a story was told that on an assult course at nighttime without any lights, a unit of US marines took about 4 hours or so to complete the assult course but it took a unit of Legionaires under an hour to do it.

That was a second TV programme about the Legion I have seen, the other one was in the early 90s I think but I was well impressed and the information I have read about them on the 'net makes me think that they are probably the best of the brest, but that's just my opioion.
