She'll be a Princess as soon as the Queen dies and Charles becomes King. Then, William will be the "Prince of Wales" and Kate will be "Princess of Wales."
She can be "Queen Catherine," and she will be when Charles dies and William becomes King.
Technically, even Diana was a "commoner," though her father was an Earl, as it means, in this context, "non-royal." Traditionally, British monarchs nearly always married foreign royalty (King Henry VIII being a notable exception, after his first wife) and it's really only in the 20th C that they started marrying "commoners."
