Sometimes you just want to scream

I started back at work three weeks ago after being off ill for over five weeks. I am still on medication and supposed to be taking it easy. My colleagues all know this.

So why is it when I go in they disappear from site without a by or leave and leave me to look after 50 plus staff?

Why do to they ensure that I am late leaving on a regular basis?

I tried talking to them and explaining I am on restricted/recuperative duties and am not fully well but do they listen? Do they hell, they do what they have always done and take advantage.

I came home from work the other night and felt like quitting because I am so fed up of it!

I actually had to calm down some before typing this rant.

I know how you feel, FB. Back when I had a factory job I ended up with a serious case of tendinitis in my left wrist (it had swollen to twice its normal size) from the work. I went to the doctor who proscribed medication and 2 weeks of light duties. I was back on the machines within 2 days! It was killing my wrists (I knew if I kept the pace of the work I would have to go and get the operation on my wrists to correct the damage done). I remember complaining to my supervisor and her response was, "What do you want me to do?" After a couple of months of the usual B.S., I ended up quiting that job because of the physical damage and mental stress it was causing me. I walked away never looking back. Don't worry, I'm not suggesting you do the same. I was just giving you some of my background. *grin*

It sounds like your co-workers need a good kick in the arse. I hope you get the rest, respect and piece of mind that you truly deserve.

If people keep doing jobs which damage their health, especially when it doesn't take much to fix the problem, like an ergonomic keyboard or better handle on a machine, then the companies will continue to ignore the problem. Congrats, Tim, on being one less person they can push around. If more followed your lead, they'd find it easier to fix the machine than to find someone willing to accept it.

One of my friends accepted it for a decade. Her husband died very early, so she had the extra pressure of being the sole bread-winner. She was always afraid to stand up for herself for fear of losing her job. Now she can hardly do any work; typing numbers into a lab report is agony, and she can't lift the chemical containers.

Fortunately, her union got serious about it. A dedicated ergonomist got assigned, and made sure there were good handles and stools and such; the ergonomist also goes back in every month or two to make sure she's not accepting any more crap, and believe me, if not for that she'd be right back where she started.
