I was much more moved by Katharine's Defiance. Her graphic descriptions filled in everything the show was missing in those epsiodes.

I figured the goons pretty much shot around him (when he was against the wall). Besides the condition killing him, he was probably pounded by the goons when they caught him.

Can you tell us what Jinpei's brilliant idea was then, and how was it effective? I' haven't seen an English translation of the episodes, and you seem to be at an advantage over me at least!

This happened at the end of the Gatch F series!

Joe and Ken were fighting over whom would have been the one to use the Hypershoot to destroy the antimatter asteroid created by Sosai Z to destroy the Earth! If Ken were to use the Hypershoot for one last time, he would have consequently died for sure, and if Joe were to use it instead, he would have ended up toast since his circuits and system weren't able to support such energy and radiation!

So, the two of them were adamant to not allow the other to sacrifice himself! Until Jinpei told them that another option could have been that of directly eliminating Sosai Z instead! Destroying Sosai Z, existing in the shape of a huge, mechanical tower, would have probably taken down the asteroid with him, which followed his orders. This could have been done by having the whole Team inside the same being, and defeat him from within! So they did and, in fact, they really did ended up victorious albeit we still don't know whether they were still alive or not! If either Joe or Ken really had managed to destroy the asteroid with the Hypershoot, one of them would have surely ended up dead whilst Sosai Z still existed, hence leaving the rest of the Team alone to continue what maybe could have been another endless battle!

thank you Marie. I have watched the episode with japanese dialogue a few times, and althouth the actions and expressions can give an idea of what's going on, it's not the same when you don't understand what exactly is being said.

IMO for the sake of fanfic writers everywhere, they all survive to live happily ever after!!!Clap

That's my own wishful thinking, KT! I cannot think of the opposite, even if I killed my own Ken in one of my poems!

In episode 104, the expression on Joe's face was enough for me, and I could imagine the rest -the blood, the shredded flesh etc....

While I like realism, that's one scene where part of me is glad they couldn't/wouldn't show the real physical damage. As it is, the first time I saw ep. 104 I was rather Crying6 -it still gets to me.

IKWYM, I cried buckets the first time I watched ep 105, when I realised they dared kill off my best character!Crying5

Having oly seen BotP until I found Wendy Dismore's site in 2001, I had no idea there was a Gatchaman. Once I learned more about that and found out Joe 'died' at the end, I was never so happy they didn't use those episodes in BotP. I'm more enamored of Jason and had had over twenty years to fantatsize about him. I would have cried for him but could watch the Gatchman episodes without being as attached to Joe.

When I first watched the Gatchaman series, my kids (ages 3 and 5 at the time) watched with me. I knew they'd be devastated to see Joe die, so the moment episode 105 was over I had to take them to Boeke's screenshot site and show them the shots from Gatchaman II episode 4, to show them that Joe didn't really die! It was very upsetting for them, even so....

A few years later, I got the Eagle Riders series, and they were able to watch those episodes where Joe comes back. They were so excited, bounding up and down on the couch, chanting, "Joe! Joe! Joe!" Too funny! But it was clear they were relieved to see him in action again.

All I had to go by was the thumbnails I found about Gatch II and Wendy's Out of the Shadows to verify Joe survived until I was able to get copies of Eagle Riders.
