Did have a friend who was sometimes allowed to use an old Volkwagen Rabbit his parents had -and the front passenger-side door was permanently locked and didn't open. Getting in and out involved using the driver side door and clambering over.

Very true -probably explains why his parents rarely let him drive it. Now that I think about it, that car's speedometer didn't work either -you had to sort of guess how fast you were going. In Nova Scotia, though, annual renewal of a car's registration requires that it be inspected and this car would never have passed. I can't recall exactly -this was when I was in high school- but I think his parents got rid of the car rather than pay to get it repaired.

Zark's definitely trying to be cool, little does he know that it won't do him any good...
To me, Rover looks like he's been sunburnt -- I get this colour after a couple of days on the beach. Perhaps he sneaked off when Zark was having "a well-deserved ten-second oil-break" and took a walk on the island on top of Centre Neptune and forgot the sunblock.
And howling planets does sound better than "speedo"...
