Perhaps that is why the show still resonates with so many of us, aside from the groundbreaking animation for the time and solid characters.

I do understand the reservations people have with technology, I just don't understand their all or nothing stance. Or to take it one step further and require that it all be banned as blasphemy.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be alarmed if someone cloned a whole human (and probably start thinking of clone wars a la Star Wars); however, I don't think we should dismiss the potential of being able to clone parts for organs that might lower even farther reduce the possibility of rejection and shorten donor lists waiting times. Why toss out the possibility of nerve or tissue regenerations because we don't like the source of the research.

Yes, there is a possibility for abuse. But we can't let that possibility control us. After all, if you ask the TSA cupcakes, baby food, formula, contact lens solution, drinking water, etc. can all be abused.

We should not allow the fear abuse to keep us from the potential.

Isn't that another thread Amethyst? J/K

seriously though, you make some valid points. Science has achieved so much in such a short time that it makes me wonder what can possibly be left to discover. Yet time and again the scientific community keeps producing the goods. and as far as I'm concerned long may it continue!

Eh, don't worry, this happens all the time here/ As long as people are enjoying the discussion, we can feel free to wander off. Wink

I have just read a very interesting conversation here! You have mentioned some very valid, and good, points, guys! I don't think I can add anything more, but I totally agree with what you're saying!

I'm a little late into this one.

I'm not very religious, but I do believe everything science has done has been guided from knowledge brought on by something bigger and therefore is for our use. If God didn't want it to happen, there wouldn't have been a test tube baby in 1977.

I don't remember when I learned about clones. I feel like I've always known about them, bt I started reading sci-fi when I was six.

Yay!! Well done Keyop Jumping I'll give him some credit if no one else does!

Notice how these animators also put Mark and Princess together?
I don't think Jason is wearing any gloves.
Were they still in firebird mode while they were crowding around Tiny's chair, since the viewscreen is all yellow, I can't imagine that would be the safest thing to do!

I know that it could be because of my restricted vocabulary, but could someone tell me what Princess means with the expression "Zowie!", please, or is it another kind of nick-name used in BotP, or in any other series apart from Gatchaman? Thanks beforehand!Smile

I'm assuming that in this context she means "WOW!" or something similar. It's not a common expression around here either.

Yes, 'Zowie!' is an expression meaning 'Wow!' or 'Oh my!' or even 'Yikes!'. I recall it mostly from reading Archie comics as a kid.

Yes, Keyop should have gotten some recognition, or a pat on the back!

Yes, poor Keyop! Maybe they tend to assume that as an android, he doesn't have real feelings?

I'm wondering who is saying the "I wish I believed that, Mark. It all seems too simple for my liking" line. I'm guessing Jason.

Posted by Becky Rock on 14-01-2012 at 18:17:

That sounds like Jason.

If he isn't wearing gloves, his arms still look strange.

I would guess that it's Jason or Princess saying that.

Thanks for your help with the word "Zowie!", KT and TJ! I know that some people are also named Zowie (don't know how it is written, though!) so I wanted to make sure!

The only name that even remotely sounds like that -- as far as I know -- is the female name Zoe (and its variant spellings).

the only instance of Zowie used as a name I can think of is "Zowie Bowie" son of David Bowie.. And that's just an alias, his real name is Duncan Jones.
