At least we know the Brits mess up their comics just as much as the Americans did in those Gold Key ones! The quality of the drawing seems to be better here, though.

Yep, Princess is blonde. And Zark somehow looks more... round... not sure why.

Now we know where the helmet designs for the OAV came from with the chin coverage.

Is it just me, or did they draw Jason to look like Micky Dolenz?

LOL, Amethyst, I hadn't noticed that, but your'e right!

Becky, I don't think Tiny has a chin cover, but the rest certainly seem to!

I think the OAV people got their helmet idea from modern snowboarding or motorcycle helmets. Somewhere, I stumbled over a picture of a snowboarding helmet, and noted its resemblance the headgear in both the OAV and Casshern Sins.

I think the makers of this comic got duped by that sneaky Eva Douglas!

That's possible.

I wonder if that's where Jane Lebak got her idea for her blonde G-6 Susan?

And the story continues. What do you guys think of Zoltar and the Luminous One? And we can see that everyone except Tiny does seem to have chin guards.

There was a giant, flying, robot hand in an episode of Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot.

For some reason, that thought popped into my head.

I'm beginning to think that as bad as Gold Key was, there is worse out there. Hiding 2

You never know, until you start digging... Wink

Based on the 'next week' comment at the bottom, I'm wondering if these were run in UK newspapers?

I really can't remember seeing these at all, most likely featured in some "boys" magazine, that steriotypically I wouldn't have had access to.. being a girl and all that!!! I may be wrong and an edition that I will remember may be posted at a later date!!

Ans we haven't seen the team out of uniform yet. I'm afraid to.

The civvies aren't *too* bad. They remind me a bit of the Gatch II civvies.

Okay, I did a little Googling and discovered this on Wikipedia.

quote:
A Battle of the Planets comic strip ran in the British TV Comic. The TV Comic issues which feature the Battle of the Planets strip run from #1530 (17 April 1981) to #1671 (30 December 1983). TV Comic also reprinted some of the Gold Key stories for two Battle of the Planets holiday specials and one TV Comic holiday special. There was also a Battle of the Planets annual which reprinted some of the Gold Key stories.

Issues 1530 to 1671 would imply that there were 142 'episodes'.... which means I don't have them all. The 2 pages I've posted are one issue's worth of comic. I only have 52 'episodes', which is the equivalent of one year's worth, assuming that they ran once a week. Now they say that some of the Gold Key comics were reprinted, but even so, there were only 10 of those... although granted, the comic books were a lot longer than one of these weekly serials!

So there nay be some out there that I don't have!

Zoltar looks about right, but what did they do to the Luminous One?? He looks like a sliced ham with eyes!

Had a chuckle at Jason's "Our missiles are useless!" line -doesn't Joe rant something very similar in Gatch?

I think Keyop is more than just numb there in the final panel -maybe the muscles he needs to be able to breathe aren't working in his case?

Posted by Transmute Jun on 09-01-2012 at 15:27:

LOL, LB! Keyop is definitely making a weird face in that last panel... but he doesn't need to breathe! He's an android!

Well when we see it in fanfiction and discussions, at least we now know the source.
