Heh, we need more scenes of Zark being told off!

Can't help but think that if Zoltar can truly create earthquakes at will, it would be even more terrifying and damaging to do it in a region of the world where they normally never occur, not a region that has building codes and other precautions in place because they're unfortunately prevalent.

Is he, by any chance, bluffing? Or borrowing Lex Luthor's evil scheme from the first Superman movie?

I suspect the writers are borrowing Lex Luthor's evil plot. minus the real estate investment.

But yes, it's great to see Zark told off!

The Captain Anderson comment was the first thing I noticed and was shocked by in this frame.

I suspect what you see as a "long" mask TJ, is actually the end of the mask lines merging into the lines of Zoltar's mouth/frown lines.

Yeah, look how us east coasters reacted to a little shaking.

Or when lots of snow suddenly falls on a place that usually doesn't get much -total chaos!

Is Anderson consistently "Captain" throughout the comic?

He was called that at least once before.

Yes, we did mention it before... I don't recall if it's used consistently... I'll have to check.

Tongue

"Captain" is actually a demotion, isn't it? Did Jason have anything to do with?

That's not a bad idea... I'll bet Jason's actions have gotten the Chief in hot water from time to time!

Or maybe these comics are a prequel to the canon series and Anderson hasn't been promoted to Chief yet... Wink

Interesting thought...

That would explain a lot.

Can't decide on birdstyle colors.
Can't decide on their hair color.
Can't decide on their civies colors.
Can't decide what their weapons are going to be.

Thank goodness they decided before the series started!

I think that "Chief" is an "NCO" rank, like Sergeant, in most military systems whereas "Captain" is not -but who knows what type of system they're using in the BOTP-verse?

But I like the idea of Jason ending up the cause of a demotion for Anderson ("But President Kane, I ordered him not to fire any missiles at those Spectran assassin squads infiltrating Federation headquarters until it was confirmed that you'd been evacuated -really I did!") :-)

That's true. In the military (mostly Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines {I think}) Chief is an NCO rank similar to Sergeant.

However, Chief is an officer rank in civilian organizations such as Police and Fire Departments. Using this, it could hypothesize that G-Force and Galaxy Security are non-military, civilian defense organizations.

Technically that is what G-Force is supposed to be. Galaxy Security isn't a police force... they're simply defending against enemy attacks. I can only think of one episode where G-Force took an offensive move where Spectra did not act first (The one where Jason gets dizzy and falls out of the Whirlwind Pyramid... Strike at Spectra?). There are other military planes and tanks and such that we see, but all Galaxy Security seems to have is G-Force.

Okay, here's another part from the same story. Zoltar is using rockets to cause the earthquakes. And because he's causing earthquakes, his secret base is... underground. Yep. Very safe, isn't it?

Check out 'Captain Anderson' in the first panel (in background). And the Luminous One has an interesting appearance as well!

Chief Petty Officer is an enlisted rank. The highest ranking is Master Chief Petty Officer. It's been a while since I was in the service, but I recall it takes some doing to move from enlisted to officer.

(To put it in Star Trek terms: Ensign Wesley Crusher outranked Chief Miles O'Brien -- a man old enough to be his father. In a regular navy, O'Brien would have to salute Wesley and call him 'sir.')

Maybe the BotP people were thinking of the unnamed 'Chief' of CONTROL on Get Smart when they created the Anderson character.

I tend to think of Galaxy Security as a military organization, or at least more military than the ISO in Gatchaman. I think they make a preemptive strike on Spectra in the first part of Curse of the Cuttlefish too. And isn't there some sort of military installation on the planet Aquatica too -in the ep with the dragon mecha?

But I'm probably just inclined to see "military" -there really isn't anything specifically stated in BOTP that I can recall, other than Mark having the title "Commander." Anderson doesn't wear a uniform, after all.

You'd be surprised how common that is. My brother has been in situations where, despite being on duty, he has been ordered to where civilian attire.

IIRC, in BOTP, the military forces all belonged to the planets, rather than to the Federation as a whole. G-Force seemed to be the only group fighting for the entire Federation... of course, now I wonder if I'm remembering correctly. I certainly play loose with this in my fanfics.
