Read on down past the bottom of the article into the comments - there is one there that explains how this kind of mistranslation can easily happen.
A friend of mine visited a restaurant in an out-of-the-way english village a few years back, where the proprietors, not really fluent in English, had paid a student to write their menu for them. The student had unfortunately taken advantage of them and written dish descriptions like "the rancid ambiguity of eastern spice", which probably sounds really impressive if you don't know what rancid means.
