What a guy will do for pictures of scantily clad women, huh?

I was channel hopping before bedtime last night, and I happened to switch onto a channel just in time for this ad for Maxim, viewable below.

So, these guys who are portrayed as straight, judging by how intently they are reading their Maxim book of scantily clad women (not nude, note) at the end, are so eager to get their girlfriends to run away and allow them to spend time alone with their little book of "pay to date" girls?

Just who is this ad aimed at, I wonder?

All somewhat more overt than the marmite ad. Which I defintely remember seeing on tv some time between 3 - 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. It got moved to post 9pm after some people complained, but it is a terribly good advert.

I admit, I was transfixed in my chair as I watched the scene unfold in front of me.

But I still don't get who the advertisers are actually aiming that ad at. Part of me wonders if it is a consolation for the women who're going to find the icky contact mag in their boyfriends' possession. With Brokeback Mountain being marketed largely at women, perhaps the western world is catching on that some of us get a little kick from homoerotica. I suspect, however, that's not what the advertisers are aiming for with the girlfriends screaming and running away.

What confuses me is the site claims to showcase examples of homosexuality being just part of life.

But, both ads are using it as a negative. *You* (the guy) will, yech, kiss another, ugh, guy! to get the product.

How about scantily clad men draped over a car? That would meet the site's criteria better.

I agree. With the ad about the magerzine, it was really stupid to say that men would snog each other just to get rid of their girlfriends, so thay can look at the scantily clad women.

Another question is why did the girlfriends just scream and run away, when they could just make disguesting noises, scream at their boyfriends and throw the tray with hot liquid all over them AND then run away.

Or better yet, why not just turn a hose on 'em? Always works on my neighbour's dogs.

Have to admit, the whole concept just seems a little silly to me.

A workmate's girlfriend has few guniea pigs and put 2 males together. One of them jumped on the back of the newcomer and well, guess.

Throwing the hot liquid over them would have shown a more negative consequence to their actions than just getting their girlfriends to leave. Likewise they don't show the consequence of their girlfriends telling everyone what happened -^_^-

It also seems there are two versions of this ad. This version that runs after the watershed, and one that runs earlier in the day where one of the guys puts his hand over his mouth before pretending to kiss the other. I haven't seen that one, but it's been around longer, since last June apparently. So pehaps that's where this ad has come from - an ad theme that originally got them publicity because it got talked about so much, stretched out to get them more publicity.
