Pelted with pop-ups!

Has anybody else been having problems with pop-up ads appearing on this site? Since yesterday, I've been having to deal with my screen filling up with them every couple of seconds -- and it seems to be triggered by clicking on to msannomalley's thread* ("Textbooks are Such a Rip-Off"). I haven't contacted Cep -- I wanted to make sure it wasn't something that was just hitting me.

*No offense msann...it just seems to have picked you!

I'll check, but it sounds like malware of some kind. I just had to have my computer fixed and have a ton of it taken off.

Just checked and didn't see anything.

I haven't, but I also run Malware Bites in the background and it's been catching stuff.

I haven't run into any problems with pop ups either. Actually the only site where I get any is photobucket. I figured out how to post my pictures from deviantArt instead to avoid it.

I agree that it sounds like sleazy malware or adware. And Mylari (why is autocorrect on a mission to mangle your name?), I don't get pop-ups with Photobucket, so you might have some too.

I might, but I usually only get one pop up each time I go there (but it happens no matter what device I use, so I doubt that all my devices have the same malware since they aren't on the same platforms). I also find photobucket to be extremely laggy for me compared to other places where I can store images, so I just don't use it much. The account was originally created for another use anyway so I just ignore it most of the time. Besides, liking directly from dA means I have one less place to remember to upload things Wink

No pop-ups for me (yet) on this site.
Hope it clears up quickly for everyone!

ETA: I'm running a couple of malware-protection programmes and pop-ups are usually blocked anyway -- sometimes even when I want them.

I don't get pop ups on my account, however, if I am on the guest account for any reason then I have ads pop up constantly.

I know my daughter posted a new Google background once, and that's when it started, so yeah, I know that account is infected. I removed the backgrounds but couldn't remove the adware, unfortunately.

I'll take it to be cleaned when I can bear to be without my laptop for a day or two.

The weird thing is that it's only happening after I click that specific thread, and I haven't found any malware on my system. That's why I wondered if it was happening to anybody else before I bothered Cep.

My antivirus software wasn't picking up the malware I had on my computer...but then again I don't know if it would pick it up...

I just got a new 2 in 1 with the most updated new virus scans. I haven't had that problem.

Since everything is working great for a change, EW, now I'm afraid to go into that thread.
