And I was feeling confident I'd get accepted too, because of the positive feedback it's gotten. Even showed it off at a fighting game forum and another forum, and they thought it was good too. What a drag. I felt like I created something too good to refuse.

There could have been a lot of entries to consider. Yours was great, but another might have had that extra, indefinable something in their AMV that put it above the others. It happens.

(Try again in about six months, and see what happens.)

Double check the submission requirements, too. It might not have been an artistic issue with the video, but maybe it didn't meet the submission requirements.

Did you use video clips from shows, movies, etc. when original work was required? Were clips allowed, but submissions required a percentage of original material?

I'm not familiar with the event that you are talking about, so I don't know if the above thoughts are way off base, but that would be my first thought.

Also, don't be pissed off at the form letter. It is SOP for most rejections. Consider yourself extremely lucky, when someone takes the time to offer criticism to improve your work or make it acceptable to the medium/forum it is submitted to.

I've started planning another one, but I'm not sure if I want to use the song I have in mind, because of it's lyrics, but another part of me is saying to forget the lyrics and just go make it anyway and hope for the best.

Lyrics are important, but, sometimes, it's the tune of a song, and its beat, that gets people into the mood of the kind of clips shown! If, at least, the chorus suits the video, then it would also be an additional bonus! ... I join TJ in looking forward to watch another video of yours!
