Apparently a bunch of street performers dressed up as famous super heroes and celebrities were arrested because the police thought that they were bribing people and other suspicions.

Seriously, there's more important things they should be looking out for like robberies, murders, homicides, kidnappings and so on, and instead they're locking people up for stuff like this..

They're doing their job - and if somebody made a complaint about the performers, then the Police have to respond.

Or people will complain they aren't doing their job.

Working in emergency services, and having a father who was a policeman in his youth (he was retired out after being shot and blinded in one eye), I hae a great respect for them.

They would much rather be locking up true violent offenders, but humans are stupid enough to do stupid things that could endanger others, and they need to respond to that.

It doesn't help that our society's gotten so stupid paranoid that taking a photo of an ATM can get you suspected of terrorism. Seriously. Act like a tourist, get treated like a terrorist.

But until we stop seeing evil behind every hedgerow, the police will be overworked, underpaid, and allowed/required to do stupid stuff. (I can't find it right now, but there's an article over on Cracked.com that will tell you what police can do to you.)

Too much partisanship in politics, and everyone trying to scare people into compliance. Things are not as bad as the news media and scaremongers claim. Most of us wake up, go to work, work, come home, and go to bed every day without being blown up by terrorists, raped, murdered, or kidnapped. Yet people seem to really do believe every minute of every day is a gauntlet of death.

And then those same scared people demand more laws and restrictions to stay safe. They never consider that they will one day be screwed by the laws they demand.
