Zark's voice pipes up again, full of relief because he is so glad that Princess and Mark are friends again. Quarrels are forgotten when things get rough. When people work together as G-Force do a strong bond is developed - that's the secret of their success you know.
Zark gripes a little at not being programmed for feeling (although you'd never know it) and is so very proud to be a member of .... G-Force!
I loved this ep and when I watched it again and the part where they quarrel I thought "If my DH and I quarreled like they do wouldn't that be nice!" Since it was just Mark telling her to stay focused etc, not really a quarrel at all.
Heehehhhheee that line cracked me up!!!
Great work SJ, I love the write up for the ep.

WOW LB & Saturn, what a gorgeous summary the two of you put together.
You guys worked hard on this and should be totally proud of yourselves!! I'm in awe of the wonderful pictures (the peanut gallery comments -- Saturn, you rock and know how to make a girl giggle) and the fantastic summary.
Who needs to watch the epi when we have a breakdown like that??!!
I'm with all of you on the "creepy" smile thing at the end. So cute, of course as it makes my shippy heart flutter, but also totally wierd... The animation posted later was too cool....
LB, you're right, with just little tweaks in the dialogue it really does change everything...
Joe is really soft-featured in this episode -- much like the new Joe we're seeing posters of. In this I can believe him to still be in his teens.
Ebony -- I hear you on the argument thing. Generally when we go at our DH's it is somewhat more volatile, isn't it.
I suppose in a kid's eyes if you snark back it is considered quarreling... well when we were kids anyway.
So great job LB & Saturn!!!! I love it!
SJ

I'd say you and SJ are right. A comparison between episodes 2 and 98 sure shows a difference in Joe's face. I'd say he became less "pretty" later in the series, but that's the face I know and love...

You know, maybe that was the issue. The artists might have decided, early in the series, that Joe looked too similar to Ken, and they sought ways to make his face -and eyes - more unique. Joe did end up looking more harsh, but I think that suits his personality and his storyline in the first series.

I always thought that too. Joe is the one character who seems to look different in every episode to me which works well for his story line.

True - but the animators were probably still trying to get "on model" - same episode, different frame - a bit closer to the Joe we know at the end of the series... but I also won't argue that Joe's face took on much character (and reflected the difficulties he faced) by the end of the first series.
Ken, on the other hand, does not have as much change in facial structure - although there are some shots in the first couple of episodes in which he appears much "younger" - probably due to the lack of line detailing for cheekbones and such. Even Jun, Jinpei and Ryu have moments in the episode of visual simplification which disappear as the series progresses.
It is fun to watch - and Joe's transformation is certainly startling when comparing the initial episodes to the later ones.
Yes, the ep. 2 image you posted does have a more Joe-like eye shape. Lord knows I find it hard to draw one pic of Joe "on model" -I don't blame the artists for needing a few eps or so to get hang of drawing him consistently in multiple frames!

That was actually an ep 1 image - from just a few minutes later in the sequence.
And I agree - getting Joe "on model" is terribly challenging!

I found he became more manly later on, and he looked much older than earlier in the series. In the later eps he could easily be early twenties rather than a teenager.

The "doc file" image is appearing this time for me, Springie! (Although, I was able to get to it before by clicking on "Springie's Fan Pages" and then finding ep. 2).
Jinpei really does like to tease Jun, doesn't he? If he'd seen Katse without his lipstick in this ep, he'd probably have accused Jun of taking it...
Sorry to go back to this, but I wonder if you could capture images of Joe in birdstyle from the beginning and ending and then out of uniform and compare them.
Perhaps as I have read in may fics the artists were trying to go with the idea that the helmets/visors made their features look different. Or maybe I am just taking this too far....

I've just noticed that there aren't many images of him in his civvies at all in the earliest episodes! He does, to me, look a bit different in the later episodes (in and out of birdstyle) and also a bit older, but I think it's mostly that there's more detail added to his face, and a lot of that is lines that make his nose, chin and cheeks a bit sharper and harsher, and that seems to add some age.

Regarding what CD said about whether their visors make their faces look different -I've always assumed that we're supposed to believe that their visors disguise their identities. After all, Dr. Boronbo's daughter Rumi spends a lot of time near Ken when he's in birdstyle, but can't really recognize him later when she sees him in his civvies. But, we the viewers need to be able to see their faces, or else it would be no fun for us to watch them if we couldn't see their expressions. The visors certainly change the colours of their hair and eyes, to us the veiwers, but I'm not so sure the artists draw them differently in and out of birdstyle.
